Make an Appointment with yourself…Fun in the sun or a moment of peace.

Before summer is over, you might want to think about soaking up some of the sun before it starts getting too cold. Yes, the sun; how many of us out there have had a chance to get out and look at the sun today. We as women have a tendency to rush from one appointment, commitment, activity, or event after another, and forget to even look at the sun or take time to get out into it.

Well we all need to find a reason, whether it is going to a free festival, or buying a ticket to a music festival, or some fun activity to take your mind off of what to do next, but to enjoy yourself, whether with family or friends…then make the time outside in the sun where you can renew your mind, body, and spirit.

If you are reading this, how long has it been since you enjoyed some time out in the sun for yourself? If you are thinking even for one second about how long it has actually been since you last enjoyed something that is free to all of us every day as long as the sky is clear,  as the sun, then you might want to think about taking more time for yourself.

You may be asking right now, why would someone blog about taking the time to do something for yourself in the sun…well it is to illustrate how we as women sometimes get so focused on what we need to do each day, that we forget to enjoy it. After all, the gift of each day is something that we will never have again. And we all need to make the time for ourselves, no matter how busy we are, or how many deadlines in our lives that we need to meet. Today take a collective spiritual, mental, and physical breath and absorb the world around you and find enjoyment in the day. And if you cannot do it today, make an appointment with yourself to go somewhere where the breeze caresses your skin, and the sun rejuvenates your soul.

Today’s blog is not necessarily about fashion, it is about something far more important, us as women. And we all need to take time to reconnect with ourselves daily and take even 15 minutes for ourselves  and make them the most important meeting, or appointment for the day or week. What a wonderful gift that we as women can give to ourselves in our busy lives.

What is it about Fashion in general that makes strangers friends?

Have you ever put on your most fashionable dress, and favorite shoes on a day when you are feeling a little low, or for a big transition in your life like a promotion ?

If you are one of the individuals who say yes, like me you know that when you get a compliment from a perfect stranger, that stranger in that moment became your friend.

Why because a compliment especially on those days when you might actually need them is a gift. And as a gift it opens all of us up to make friends with perfect strangers.

I myself have been thinking about this for a while, and realized that I can go through my day and give perfect strangers a gift, and in that moment make a friend.

When I was growing up I would hear “you cannot give something away without receiving something back.”

Well my challenge to women out there, is to give a compliment, it does not have to be a fabrication or something made up.

But if you go about your day, and see a woman or even a man with a shirt, skirt, accessory, hair style, or glasses even that you like, GIVE THEM A GIFT OF A GENUINE COMPLIMENT.

And in giving the gift of a compliment, you will learn like I have that your other wise OK day just became that much more enjoyable. You made a friend, touched another persons life, and interacted with a stranger who even in those moments became a friend.

Just a thought about a Good Attitude about Fashion

It is funny how sometimes the simplest things in life can help one learn more about oneself. You are probably asking what do you mean? Well, what I mean is that I was able to reinforce something I learned a long time ago about an attitude towards fashion, from a 2 year old DIVA. You see, this 2 year old Diva, told her Mommy  one Sunday morning as she got ready to go to church that she wanted to wear her “BOOTS PURPLE” or purple boots (mind you they were patent and knee high, yeah a fashionista in the making) with her bright pink and green outfit. Even though her mother tried with earnest to persuade her feisty two year old that it did not match, the little girl just looked at her mother, bunched her lips, furrowed her brow, and simple said “BOOTS PURPLE mommy.”

After this little illustration you might wander what I mean, so here it is, when it comes to fashion, it is not about who or what you are wearing, but like the little Diva, it is about your ATTITUDE towards what you wear and yourself. It could be the new “BOOTS PURPLE” that you received for Christmas, like the little girl, and how she likes how they make her feel. Or it could be your grandmothers pearls that she passed down to you so that when ever you wear them they bring back memories of baking, and Chanel No. 5 perfume. Nevertheless, when you step out of your home every morning whether you are taking your children to school, going to work, meeting loved ones or friends for lunch, you should walk with confidence knowing that your attitude towards what you are wearing is what everyone will see first, not who or what it is.

So like this 2 year old Diva, we can each walk out into the world with confidence, and if we cannot, “Fake it til you make it,” because your attitude is what matters most. Just as a thought, as you read this think of something that you can put on whether it is the new dress, cardigan or jewelry from the doubletakefashion website, or the incorporation of you grandmothers treasured earrings, a birthday gift, or a gift to yourself. No matter what it is, choose right now, this very moment, to have confidence if not in what you are wearing but in the beautiful, kind, generous, loving, and intelligent woman who is wearing it.

An attitude of confidence, love, gratitude, and self worth, are not seen by what you wear, but by your attitude towards the woman in the clothes.

Whenever you are thumbing through the fashion magazines whether you are at home, or out at an appointment have you ever wondered how to interpret the high fashion pictures and incorporate something from them into your own wardrobe?

Well we at double take fashion have a tip. And that tip is to look at the pictures and pick one to two things that you may already have in your wardrobe and showcase them more, or pick something that is within your budget and then  incorporate it into your already existing wardrobe.

An example of something that we have seen and do have on our website are the long or short wrap shawls. Double Take Fashion’s New Websites Purpose and Mission

Double Take Fashion Clothing and Accessories is a company developed by identical twin sisters who used their love for each other and fashion as a way to cope with their own personal illnesses. Even though their personal illnesses were not life threatening, they needed each other and their love for fashion to help them to heal and become better.

The twin sisters  names are Shelley and Nicole. They found that even though they were ill, when it came to being with one another, and clothing and accessories it seemed as if their particular discomfort, pain, and fatigue did not plague them. They wanted others not to see them as they felt, fatigued, and uncomfortable. But they wanted everyone to see them as they knew they were deep down; and that is beautiful no matter what.

They used their own unique fashion sense and love for clothing and accessories to show the beauty that they each saw in one another.  They also desired it to be seen by everyone that they came into contact with. No matter how they felt on the inside, the beautiful, funny, and artistic person on the inside was seen by all. Their daily motto, no matter what, became “Fake it to Make it.” In other words, no matter how they felt upon waking, they put on their comfortable yet stylish clothing and accessories, and showed that beautiful person to everyone else while coping with their own physical pain and fatigue. At the end of the day they made it because when someone complemented them on their outfit, style, or overall look positively, it was like getting a gift,  first to themselves by looking fashionable, and the gift of being complimented made them feel better.

So the twin sisters found that through being together, and their mutual love for fashion, but not just any fashion but that which came from an Angel named Gavriel who believes in Faith, Health, Family, Friends, and Fun; they were able to start healing, and have hope. This Angel allowed them to find clothing that enabled them to be comfortable while looking chic and stylish to finding their way in the world and through their illness. They realized that life is about balance, that no matter what you are going through the sun will surely rise again tomorrow, and when it does you will rise and shine with it.

As the twins became more involved in fashion in general, and then specific types of clothing and accessories, they found that they wanted all women to feel as they did when they walk out of the door every morning. Even though they did not feel so good physically, they could make it if they could fake it, and while faking it, they found that they were able to make it through the day because they actually were able to find more joy in the day and it showed on the outside both by their style, but how it made them feel.

The purpose of Double Take Fashion is to give all women an opportunity to wear  chic, trendy, and stylish clothing and accessories that do not replace their already existing wardrobe, but enhance it. Where women are able to find, and buy trendy, stylish, and affordable clothing and accessories that can be incorporated into the wardrobe that they already have so that they can have the beautiful, intelligent, loved, treasured, and cherished, individual that they are on the inside be reflected to everyone no matter how they may feel.

I mean, who does not want everyone to take a “Double Take” as they go to the grocery store, pick up the kids, go to church, have an evening out with friends or with that special person in their life?

Life is about choices for each moment, and little changes, from a new accessory to a new shawl like those on the Double Take Fashion website can make moments of pain, and discomfort more comfortable and even as a distraction. Then you can express who you truly are on the inside with everyone else.
